Lavender and Laughter

Life is too short to drink tea out of a plastic cup....I created this blog to pour the lavender and laughter of my life into yours.

I am complicated and I am a Marshwiggle (like Puddleglum from Lewis' The Silver Chair). Personality tests don't work on me. I yearn to see Jesus face to face, and to see the love in His eyes. I am learning to walk on water and to be a new person in Christ. I am in love with my husband and baby, and I love the smell of coffee and lavender mixed together.

There is a Mourning Dove singing on my Air Conditioner!

It's kindof sweet, actually...although I might change my mind if it were 90 degrees outside and I wanted to use it. I'm feeling much less stressed right now because I got some things done last night. I took a shower...always a good place for me to focus on talking to God. Then, even though it was late, I began cleaning the apartment. I got everything put away, dusted, and the bathroom cleaned (even the tub scrubbed!). So this morning I only need to vacuum, take the trash out, and comet the kitchen sink. Then I can make some tea and spend some time reading my Bible-something I spent a lot of time praying about in the shower last night. I also prayed for extra time and energy to excercise-REALLY IMPORTANT-we'll see how that goes. I'm hoping that I can really get into a healthy routine (something I haven't had since I got pregnant)...and it includes simple things like getting the dinner dishes washed and put away after dinner...not the next morning! At 9:30 there is supposed to be an apartment inspection. WHAT'S THAT? I'm curious if it will be a city inspection-checking smoke detectors and such-or whether it will be by the apartment management. The latter is what makes me nervous. Granted, my apartment has to be by far the most clean and beautiful one in the complex, but I did definitely break all the rules. The nasty dark brown fake wood kitchen cabinets have been painted, and we hung curtains over the terribly ugly and half broken windows. Well, I can only hope that they are blown away by how nice it all looks...and that'll be the end of it.

I always like thinking about pretty things...I don't know if it's the girl in me, or the artist. But right now, I've been enjoying how nice my new ivy plant looks in the cream McCoy planter...and have also been thrilled with my wedding quilt-just out of the closet for the summer!

I guess I better get on to my cleaning...if I want God to fulfill His part in helping me, I better fulfill mine in not procrastinating-right?

And My House is Growing too!

I already am in love with that window seat...we're putting little sconce lights in it! And I've really had fun picking out colors for the house-who knows which ones I'll end up with! I meant to take pictures when the house was still being framed, but I never got around to it. So, this will have to be my "before" picture. I can't wait for the "after".

The Flowers are growing....

SO IS MY BELLY!

Spring Flings

I'm having so much fun this week! Along with the shocks (like...no twins) come all kinds of new ideas and fun projects....I'm thinking about my house and my baby room of course. And I put this cheery vintage red, blue, and yellow tablecloth on my kitchen table where I have been drinking ice tea and reading and writing (I'm not supposed to be leaning back anymore, to make sure the baby turns). I finally gave in and bought some Haeger planters that I've had my eye on for a year...and I repotted some plants and made banana bread last night. Mom and Grandma came for lunch yesterday...and even though it was spontaneous...it was fun; I came up with ice tea, toasted egg salad sandwiches, tomatoes slices, and carrots: not too bad if I do say so myself!

I've decided to stick with my 2 vintage wooden folding chairs for the kitchen, and will try to find two more! I've also decided to stick with light blue in the baby room...but with a tree theme and forest animals...not so many girly bunnies :) Jenny gave me this amazing tree print that she made (a process she learned of dipping a metal sheet in acid and scratching a picture into it...then dipping it in ink and rolling it onto paper like a press).

Luke and I had a couple over last night for fun, and played poker...which I hopelessly lost, although technically I won at the end (only because Luke got me to put everything in and then no one had any good cards!) Anyway, I seem to have a lot of time on my hands right now, and am wanting sooooo bad to do all my shopping for my baby and my new house...but I'll try to not go overboard until I actually have a house to put it all in!

It's a boy!

After an early ultrasound due to a concern that I might be carrying twins.....i'm feeling like this will all be a breeze! I'm almost exactly half way through, feeling great, and thinking about a baby Luke :) This little guy was so busy in my tummy that the doctor couldn't get a clear picture!

Another Week

Luke said I could stay another week, bless his heart! So Mom and I are making more plans :) The baby clothes are from Spain...and of course, I'm hoping to use them...now I just need to decide whether I should have a boy or a girl! Isn't the outfit with the bonnet and booties precious? And the weird wooden thing is my new potato masher that will actually be used for pounding meat. The quilt and basket and bowls are things I'm going to put in my laundry room-just for fun! And that cool handmade frame: I want to put a mirror in it and use it in our guest bathroom! The baby shoes were mom's as a baby...and I just think they're sweet. Oh yes, and the books are my beloved set of Dickens which I plan to bring back to Iowa with me...I love Dickens! It's all just stuff stuff stuff...but fun fun fun. And yes, I'm beginning to miss Luke like CRAZY.

Michigan all Week

I wish I had brought my camera with me to Michigan. I've been making a quilt with mom (I hate to say it...but she did all the sewing; I just cut and ironed and picked out colors). I bought an old antique potato masher to pound my meat with, and an old basket to put in my laundry room at my new house. And mom saved a box full of beautiful baby clothes from all her babies...so I'm excited to go through them with her. It's too bad I don't know whether my tummy's male or female yet :) I'll know in three weeks. Not much else to tell, I'm just having fun with mom!
